AMERICAN PHAROAH WINS THE TRIPLE CROWN!!!!
LONG LIVE THE KING!!!
I feel so blessed to have been able to witness history -37 years and American Pharoah made it look easy. What a horse – in a year when we have the most talented group of 3year olds we have seen in a while – American Pharoah proved he was truly deserving of the Crown.
Another added excitement for the day was having a poster of previous Triple Crown winners - Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and Affirmed signed by the owners and connections.
It was a perfect, shinning day, the crowds bubbling with anticipation. We all wanted to witness history but so many had tried and failed we tried not to set our hopes too high. Yes this was a special horse but so many things can happen –a stumble from the gate and his run is over. Plus all daylong the favorites failed to win – horses like Tonalist, last years Belmont winner who is 4 for 4 at Belmont Park came in 2nd! Untapable who has been unbeatable -2nd! Trainer Todd Pletcher (Materiality and MadefromLucky) was on fire winning 3 races, the Acorn, the second race, and the Brooklyn. It made you wonder if the stars were not aligned and it was going to be a day of upsets. When it was time for the race, the crowds wild cheering as the Pharoah approached the Starting Gate and broke cleanly from the Gate seemed to vibrate through the stands. Then silence, watching for what seemed hours, as the horses raced along and back stretch, he was in the lead with horses pressing him -but holding. In the long sweeping turn to the home stretch, Frosted made his move – as they hit the stretch is was a two horse race and then Pharoah just opened up in that fluid effortless stride. I kept looking back to see who was coming to catch him – expecting the worst. And then I like the rest of the crowd realized there was no one who could catch him in time that he was going to win. All at once everyone was screaming, crying and hugging everyone around them. HE DID IT –HE HAD WON!!
